Yodi: Build the Mind, Label Every Lever
A useful intelligence system should not become less understandable as it becomes more capable.North star
Small on purpose. Powerful by structure.
Yodi is built around a stubborn idea: intelligence does not have to begin as one enormous opaque model. A compact system can become unusually capable when its data has identity, its memory has boundaries, its specialists have clear jobs, and its candidates must win honest tournaments before promotion.
That creates a different engineering question. Instead of asking only how many parameters a model has, we ask what every chamber owns, what enters, what leaves, what can fail, what evidence admits a result, and whether a smaller mechanism can do the job better.
Neural Boards
Every gear and lever earns a name.
A Yodi Neural Board is an inspectability contract around learned behavior. Inputs, outputs, controls, losses, data sources, tensors, fallback behavior, and parameter coordinates are recorded instead of hidden behind a vague model label. The current manifest gate rejects undocumented data rights, missing explanations, absent scalar records, and missing fallbacks.
That does not magically explain the causal meaning of every learned weight. It does something more honest: it exposes every coordinate we can operate, the reason the board exists, the training path that shaped it, and the exact boundary between measured evidence and inference.

Specialist bundles
A guild of Yodis beats one faceless oracle.
The long-range architecture allows many specialized Yodis to work as a typed team: one retrieves bounded memory, one evaluates candidates, one understands a modality, one proposes a plan, and another checks the result. Their handoffs can be inspected because a specialist communicates through named inputs and outputs rather than private intuition.
In a future Dolphin creator session, one Yodi might propose a castle silhouette, another estimate material behavior, and another watch performance. Dolphin would still validate and own the world change. Yodi proposes; the authoritative product decides, records, replays, and undoes.
Proof before mythology
The current system is already interesting without pretending.
Today Yodi has executable proofs for compact model selection, exact checkpoints and resume, bounded owner-filtered memory, six typed modality families, backpressure-aware serving, real Vulkan execution, and same-source native Kyber output. Its promoted sequence model is measured in kilobytes, not marketed as a hidden general intelligence.
That honesty is the foundation of the bigger dream. The world's soon-to-be greatest AI should not be the system that asks for the most faith. It should be the one that gives inventors the clearest controls, the strongest evidence, and the shortest path from a strange new idea to a safe experiment.
